What is Testosterone Replacement Therapy?

Testosterone replacement therapy involves using medications to replace testosterone that is not being produced by the body. The therapy can come in the form of injections, gels, patches, or pellets that are implanted under the skin. The goal of TRT is to increase testosterone levels back to a normal range and improve symptoms of low testosterone. Here at iGP, we only offer topical treatments. If you are an existing patient of iGP requiring injections or implants, we can refer you to a specialist to continue the advanced treatment.

Who is a Candidate for TRT?

TRT is typically recommended for men who have been diagnosed with hypogonadism, which can be confirmed through a blood test that measures testosterone levels. Men who have experienced a decrease in testosterone due to aging or other factors may also benefit from TRT.

How does it work?

The process begins with a GP consultation with an IGP clinician specialized in TRT therapy. The clinician will take a detailed medical history and aim to identify the symptomology and how it relates to testosterone levels. Two separate blood tests will then be required that evidence your testosterone levels. If your levels are low the GP will then be able to begin the treatment.

What are the Benefits of TRT?

TRT has been shown to improve symptoms of low testosterone, such as increased sex drive, improved mood, and increased energy levels. It can also help to increase muscle mass, bone density, and red blood cell production.

What are the Risks of TRT?

Like any medical treatment, TRT has some potential risks and side effects. These can include acne, breast enlargement, links to sleep apnea, and an increased risk of blood clots. It is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits of TRT with your doctor before starting the treatment.

At IGP, we offer comprehensive testosterone replacement therapy services. Our experienced doctors will work with you to determine if TRT is right for you and create a customized treatment plan tailored to your needs. Contact us today to schedule an appointment and learn more about how TRT can help you feel your best.
