Wellness Medicals are sometimes referred to as an “MOT” for your body as they are designed to give you a complete, independent picture of your current health status. This is not specifically designed to diagnose specific issue or evaluate existing conditions. It is primarily to ensure that you are not displaying any general health warning signs.
If you have a specific medical concern, we would suggest that you have a GP consultation, which may require a specific test or screen.GP Consultation
The first stage of the medical is to establish the background details about your lifestyle, medical history, family medical history and any pre-existing conditions which may help us to evaluate the results of the medical. This is established using a premedical questionnaire:Premedical Questionnaire
It will also help us identify any medical concerns that you may have and then areas where we can suggest possible changes to your lifestyle or possible treatment option. This pre-emptive approach, is the best way to tackle health issues as we believe that prevention is better than cure.
Wellness medical appointments take around an hour to complete and during the appointment our doctors will provide you with a physical which includes a full examination:Physical Examination BMI (Body Mass Index) ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) Eye Examination Nervous System Spine & Posture Abdomen Upper & Lower Limbs Blood Pressure Heart Rate Rhythm & Sounds (An ECG is also available as an additional screen) Lung Function (Spirometry is also available as an additional screen)
We also provide a full range of pathology as standard:Pathology Tests FBC (Full Blood Count) + 5‐part Diff ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) Sodium Potassium Chloride Bicarbonate Urea Creatinine Bilirubin Alkaline Phosphatase AST ALT Gamma‐GT Protein (Total) Calcium Phosphate Uric Acid Glucose Cholesterol Triglycerides Iron TIBC (Total Iron Binding Capacity) HDL Cholesterol LDL Cholesterol
We also undertake an instant urine dip test which will identify the potential threat of Diabetes.
Additional tests are available as part of the medical, but they are not included in the standard set of pathology. This is because they may not be relevant to your age group or sex.
In addition to the standard tests we are also able to offer Chest X-Rays and exercise ECGs (Electrocardiogram - used measure the rate and regularity of heartbeats). However, if you have any specific enquiries or areas of your health that you wish to investigate please let us know when booking your appointment.
We can also provide a Sexual Health screening during your medical which will identify any potential STI’s (Sexually Transmitted Infections).Sexual Health Testing
Once we have all the results of the examination, tests and screens we will provide you with a detailed report of your findings. In this report we will relay back to you your results and provide you with suggestions for treatment or follow up appointment.
All wellness medicals include a follow up appointment (at no additional cost), which will give you the opportunity to go over the report with the doctor – this can be done over the phone if it is more convenient.
